Bonds: The Boring Part of Your Portfolio

In this episode of Financial Clarity for Doctors, hosts Corey Janoff and Rachelle Vanderzanden try to do the impossible – make bonds exciting! Just kidding. That’s impossible. Instead, they try to at least explain the basics of how bonds work and their place in portfolios built for different situations. Exciting? Maybe not. But still important!

Listen Along!

Listen to the full episode to learn:

  • What a bond is and how it functions.
    • Hint: The bond issuer is a borrower, and the owner is a lender.
  • How owners of bonds can earn money.
  • How bonds can function inside mutual funds and ETFs.
  • Different types of bonds.
  • How to evaluate the pros and cons of buying bonds in different scenarios.
  • The role of bonds in different investment portfolios.
    • Generally considered more conservative than stock-based investments.

Bonds may be boring, but they can also provide diversification and potentially income in a portfolio. Two things that can be very helpful in portfolios. As always, spend time considering your own goals and timeline. Then you can decide which investment is right for you.
